Now That We Have Some Experience with the Course, Let's Reflect on How It Is Going

This hybrid or blended approach, half in person and half on-line, is a new thing. In fact, we may be the only class at Sinclair that is doing this kind of systematic mix of in-person and on-line learning. It is important for the college to hear from YOU as to whether this is a good approach or not.

I am aware that, in fairness, students should know, before they sign up, that the course will be a blended one. Currently, there is no mechanism at the college to do that. But if you say this blended approach is worthwhile, and more courses begin to adopt it, a system for informing students before they register will surely be created. So there is no need to address the issue of informing students before they sign up -- I know that needs to become part of the process.

Let me repeat some of the things I said in class:

  • I am retiring after next quarter, so I don't have any agendas of my own. And, at this point, I don't care what my "official class evaluations" are -- this isn't that kind of evaluation. Don't worry about me, just give your honest thoughts concerning the blended approach we are using.
  • I need to know your opinions of blended courses so that I can let the college know. If this is a bad idea, I want to let the college know that we should NOT go in this direction. If blended courses are a good alternative in your opinion, I want to let the college know that students want this. This is your chance to influence how courses are put together for future students, so help those future students by speaking your minds now.

I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say, and to passing it on to other teachers and administrators at the college.
