2010 Disc Golf World Championship site

The professional world championships will be held at Lemon
Lake at the end of July, 2010. (The world amateurs will be
held in mid-Ohio at the beginning of July, 2010.)

Lemon Lake County Park is below Gary Indiana about 2 hours
North of Indianapolis and 90 minutes South of Chicago.
There are four courses on site. When I drove into the park
I saw a lot of short, open holes along the roads. I knew there
must be more to it, so I parked and explored. I played this
straight hole for an easy par. But the alternate basket
placement is longer and tucked into the woods on the left.
This hole was also short, but a tough drive.

Still exploring, I found holes in the woods around the lake.

A narrow fairway that must look a lot narrower when the
trees have leaves on them.
Eventually I found the start of the Gold Course, the newest
and I suspect the most difficult of the four courses.
Looking down toward the teepad for the first hole on the
Gold Course. (The other three courses are red, white and
blue.)
This basket on the blue course shows a view of the lake,
but I didn't see any holes where the lake actually comes
into play.
There are lots of nice views of the lakes, though.

Another drive over a creek and through a narrow opening.
This hole on the red course looks straight, but....
it goes down the fairway and turns a little to the right.
And there are chest-high thistles on both sides of the fairway
-- yikes!
After exploring and playing some of the holes, I checked out
Cedar Lake, one mile away. This bar, overlooking the lake
is the closest bar to the courses.
There are other bars and places such as the Seafood Grill on
Cedar Lake, but no motels. Too bad. I made reservations
for next July at a new motel on I-65 about 15 miles from
the courses.
