Disc golf at Pier Park in Portland, Oregon

I think of this course as a "cathedral course." Playing under
the 100-200 year old Northwestern pines, I feel like I am
playing in a cathedral. The ground beneath the trees is
open....

but there is a canopy above.

Hole 3 is one of my favorites. It winds gently along the
the bottom of a hill on the right side.

The second shot on hole 3, playing in the cathedral.

Another of my favorites is this driving hole.

The second shot goes to the basket in the trees. You can
see that the yellow-orange of the sunrise is starting to
light up the trees.

A lighted tree, and the basket in the distant center of the
picture.

As the sun rises the light gets whiter. This hole has a very
narrow opening between the trees.

This is the third of my favorite holes. Rather than one
narrow opening, it has a narrow tunnel all the way to the
basket in the distance. I think of this as my lucky hole
because I often, somehow get through the trees for a 4
on this hole.

Sure enough, my drive found the small, narrow fairway. I
threw my second shot to the right, missing the trees, and
it curved back toward the basket. I got my 4.

None of these pictures capture the grandeur -- but if you see
the little man with the blue shirt walking on the left side
of this picture, you might get a hint of the feeling.

I played this course twice so far with scores of 73 and 75.
It was early in the morning both times and I was the only
one there. (I'm on Ohio time, so starting at 6:00 a.m. is
easy.)
