When I passed the same lake a day later, it was smooth as glass.

While washing the van I noticed that I left an unfettered 2x4 on the roof when I departed
Burning Man. I have been driving 70 mph for hundreds of miles. Luckily it became
wedged into the ladder rack and didn't fly off on the interstate or bumpy back roads..

My hotel in Bridgeport. My room is the one on the top, right.

I learned of the hotel at the bar next door. There are only a few rooms at this price, so
I got there early. All other rooms in town are over $100 per night.

My room looks out on the courthouse directly across the street. It was built in the
1880's and still functions as the courthouse. It's been used in several movies.

The view of my hotel (on the right) and my bar (on the left) from the courthouse steps.

I got the room key from the bartender and when I opened my door, the first thing that
struck me was the bed.

Look at that pillow.

And the antique furniture. And a secret passage way in the back of my closet to the
room on the other side of the stairs.

None of the other rooms were ready yet, but I took a look. They were all done in
bordello style but different colors.

The wallpaper in my room -- even the door is wallpapered.

Antique furniture, but no desk (and no TV and no air conditioning -- but it's chilly
outside today, so I don't need air). I used the bed for my desk.

My calves are sore from the sequoia hike yesterday. I better go next door for for a
beer -- if I can find the door.

 Waiting for Gail

After my visit to Yosemite, I still had a day or two before Gail arrives. I did a return trip to Bridgeport, California where I stayed in the Victorian hotel that I discovered earlier.

The image to the left is Mono Lake just South of Bridgeport near the entrance road to Yosemite. The wind was so strong that I used two hands on the wheel to keep the van on the road. See the whitecaps on the lake?
