Still imagining I'm an immigrant as the boat docks.

View of the Statue of Liberty as the ferry arrives at Ellis Island.

This pictures was taken on the Statue of Liberty Island, but has the feel of people
getting off the boat.

Trunks, bags and baskets carried by the immigrants.

An area with computer stations for immigrant research. The research that I did here
was available using my login via the internet from home.

Me doing research -- trying to find my grandfather, Josef Struhar.

I found my grandfather. He is listed in the middle of the image -- Josef Struhar,
age 25, entering as a farm laborer on Oct. 22, 1913.

Gail does some research at another station. The lady on the right was very
helpful, showing us how to read the ship manifests and other records.

There were lots of interesting displays to help visitors understand the statistics
by means of visual displays. This totem shows the number of immigrants
coming into the country each decade (in millions) using blue arrows and the number
of people leaving the country (in millions) using red arrows. It was interesting
to me that there have always been a significant number of people leaving.

On the ferry back to Manhattan.
