 Geocaching

While playing disc golf I ran into a couple who were poking around the trees. I was curious and asked them what they were doing. They explained a hobby, geocaching, which I had never heard of. It involves hiding small containers and recording the GPS coordinates for the hiding spot. The container and coordinates are then registered online and people can use handheld GPS devices to search for the container. When they find it there is typically a paper inside on which the finder can register. The finder can also go online and post pictures and/or a story of the find. There are hundreds of thousands of geocaches hidden throughout the world, even in obscure places like mountain peaks and antarctica. I entered my zip code on the geocaching site and saw that there are dozens of hidden containers in my neighborhood. I am in Florida now, but when I get home I will try my luck at finding one.
