My first excursion was a trial run for ice to see if my golf-turned-ice cart worked.

A picture from later in the week, after I cut many more windows into the sides of
the parachute so that it would better handle the strong winds.

Some of the openings were cut to reduce the wind pressure on the parachute,
but this one was meant to be my window onto the playa.

Inside my camp.

The kitchen, all cleaned up.

People begin to join me.

And by the next day, I'm not alone anymore.

The chair on my front porch where I watch the sunrises and sunsets.

And the moon set.

The sunrise, looking toward the city.

But my favorite view is the more peaceful one of the sun lighting up the Western
mountains, and me with my coffee in hand..

The sun gradually approaches my camp.

Planes often fly overhead for a view of Burning Man, but helicopters are less common.

Eventually, I added a cushion to the seat of my bike. It was a good way to find it
if I left it in a sea of bicycles.

Gail bought me various nuts and seeds for snacks. I kept my jar of sunflower seeds
in the arm of my chair and snacked on them all week.

My Camp

The parachute was 24 feet in diameter. I cut windows to let in more air and light, and to let the heat out.

Later, during the first big dust storm, I cut many additional small openings to reduce the wind resistance.
