Perception vs. Memory
Mom remembers less and enjoys current experiences more. I can enrich her life by providing nice, interesting experiences for her. She enjoys her new home, but that might wear off in time unless I make periodic changes. She also enjoys cookouts in the back yard -- I set up the tent/canopy, the dog entertains us, and the flowers change every couple of weeks. Some other ideas that I am exploring:
- Mom and I will make a tour of all metroparks in the Dayton area. (I'll photograph her at each park, of course, and post the images.)
- I bought fabric to create a large (9 foot x 4 foot) movie screen. I found a nice projector for a great price on a clearance table at HHGregg. We can designate some nights as "movie night" and convert her room into a home theater. I'll look for movies with interesting visual content.
- I ordered a laser projector that creates stars, moving clouds, and the occasional shooting star on the ceiling at night.
- I am considering getting her a cat, but can't make up my mind on that one. I'll decide after I return from Burning Man in September.
