In the town of Danbury, people are swimming, floating and using a rope swing to jump
into the river.

Kids in the water and parents enjoying a picnic on the hillside.

Kayakers who made the 4-5 hour trip around the river.

I'll have to come back and take a liesurely float on the river in honor of
my friend, Paul.

On the way to the Dan River, I stopped at another North Carolina park, Lumber
River
State Park.

I walked along the river, enjoying the water and trees.

There were two campsites on the river, and both were available. But I decided to
move on to Hanging Rock State Park. I'll stay here another time.

North Carolina Parks
The Dan River is just outside of Hanging Rock State Park. I came here specifically because of the river. Paul, a friend of mine in Little River, SC grew up near here. He told me that as a kid he would get into the river, float in a winding loop for four or five hours, and end up just a short way down the road.
