The building has a beer carry out on one side, the bar on the other side, and a
food carry out in the middle. A nice setup.

From the island bar in the middle and windows looking out on the parking lot
(and a small, outside patio), you can see the far corner where the trivia group
apparently plays together. I hope I can get back and play a few games with them.

Looks like 30 boxes and a nice screen for trivia.

Tables on the other side of the island bar.

On the end of the bar, there are lots of windows looking out to nothing but trees.
Very nice.

Feels like you are eating in a tree house.

A good variety of draft beers.

I had a Greek salad with gyro meat and pita bread (the white is a chunk of feta cheese).

When I played alone in the afternoon, I got on their board a few times. I hope they
noticed. Of course it was only the second day of the month (so a fresh board).

The town of Dunbar begins right on the edge of the Cold Spot parking lot. I stayed
at a motel 2 miles up the road -- a straight shot along the river, an easy drive. There
is a bar with live music on the river about half way between Cold Spot and the motels
in Dunbar. The motels are at the Dunbar exit on I-64 just West of Charleston.

I hope to get back sometime, or maybe see their players in Dayton.

Cold Spot
The last time I drove from South Carolina, I planned a stop at Cold Spot, a trivia bar in the Charleston, West Virginia area. We see them on the leader boards regularly, and they once communicated with us about a possible trivia road trip (by them) to Dayton.
Unfortunately, the regulars who play as a group didn't come in while I was there. I stopped during the late afternoon and played by myself. The barmaid said the group usually comes in around 7:00 p.m., so I came back. There were a couple of players at the bar, but no sign of the group. Darn. (I couldn't tell them I was coming in advance because I wasn't sure what my schedule would be.) |
