Letter to the Editor

I am arguing for more openness and public debate since the issue of fairness in property taxes affects us all.

I do have greater respect for the Dayton paper since I told a half-dozen people about the letter and they all guessed that the paper wouldn't publish it because of the "friendly" relationship between Sinclair and the newspaper.

Did the paper show the letter to Sinclair personnel before publishing it? I have no way of knowing.

They did sit on my letter for almost two weeks before publishing it, and, two days before they published it, they ran an article about a possible site for Sinclair's campus in Warren County. The article (see bottom image on the left) included comments that related to my letter, such as: "Startup costs will be paid by Sinclair, but fees and tuition from Warren students enrolled there and private donations will fund its operations," and "Warren County students who enroll at the Mason campus will pay Sincliar's standard tuition, not the reduced tuition paid by Montgomery County residents, which has a tax levy in place. Warren residents would have to approve a tax levy of its own to subsidize lower tuition there. 'But we still have no plans to pursue a tax levy in Warren County,' Johnson [Sinclair president] said."
