Passing Denver and heading into the Rockies.

I have clear sailing, but the traffic coming out of the mountains, toward Denver, is
crawling. This was the situation for at least 30 miles. I am not coming home this way
-- I'll take the Northern route (I-80).

The Dewey Bridge crosses the Colorado River in Utah. It was a marvel when built in
1916 -- it could support the weight of 6 horses, a wagon and 9000 pounds of
freight.

I am the only one here, so it is comforting to know the van is keeping an eye on me
as I explore.

The van is looking good and running good.

The tread might be worn a little more on the outside, I can't tell for sure. Not enough
to worry about.

In Utah, on the road from the Interstate toward Moab.

The beauty that is Moab begins to appear.

To Moab, Utah
My goal for the second day was to reach Moab, Utah where I planned to begin the slower part of my trip by relaxing and visiting national parks. I didn't know about Moab until I discovered it on my way home from Burning Man last year.
A mountain lake in the Rockies is pictured to the left. Colorado is a large state -- about 450 miles across. It will take 7 or 8 hours to cross Colorado, and once in Utah, it will take two more hours to reach Moab. |
