Earlier in the day, Gail decided we should hang out on a rock on the river in Reno.

How could I refuse such good company.

We watched the people.

The Reno riverfront is such a natural, down home place.

It's nice to see parents giving their kids room to breathe (and play). I know, they
could drown, but what's life without taking some risks?

And we watched the ducks.

The guy on the left was a little high on something. He was having a unique
experience with his walkman and earphones -- even putting his head under the
water to see what the music would sound like.

Eventually we decided to leave our rock.

We visited the Silver Legacy where I turned 100 pennies into 150 with one pull.

And I had even more luck at Eldorado where I turned 8 quarters into 36.

I almost lost my shirt at Cal Neva, but I'm still ahead for the trip.

Time to go back to the hotel.

Does anyone know why the caged bird sings?

The big desert race from Las Vegas to Reno ends with a celebration at our hotel
this weekend
Gail says this race is one of the first things Hunter S. Thompson wrote
about --
in 1971 he came to Las Vegas to cover the Mint 400, the Great American
Desert Race.

The next day, our last -- one more float at Pyramid Lake.

And one more lunch...

cooked at the lake.

Goodbye until next time.

Reno with Gail
Walking home from one of our last nights on the town.
By the way, I never reported on my trip statistics. I drove 2620 miles on my way to Reno from Dayton, spent $396 on gas, and got 19.1 miles per gallon. |
