On the top, there is a huge area that looks like normal land -- it is the island in the sky.

If you go to the edge of the island in the sky, you see two major tiers of land below.

This picture gives a good idea of how far down it is to the bottom of the first tier. The
man on top, if he took a few steps to the left, would fall thousands of feet to the
first level.

Another image that shows the drop to the first level, but it is impossible to
capture the depth and feeling of vertigo as you look over the edge.

From the first tier there is another drop into the second level. Moab would be at
the level of the floor on the bottom level.

When you view the huge spires, way down there, from above, you begin to see
how the spires are formed.

Each view from a different part of Island in the Sky (20 miles long, vaying width)
gives a completely different view of the canyons below.

View from Island in the Sky.

Moab is the jeep rider's dream. There is a huge jeep festival in the Spring. You can
see the trecherous roads going down on the left, and a dirt road on the bottom.

Anyone know where I can get a jeep cheap?

Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands is a huge national park, divided into three parts. Each part must be accessed independently, and one part, the Maze, has no paved access -- it is one of the best areas in the country to experience nature in its most primitive state.
The part that I visited this time is the most accessible, Island in the Sky. |
