Cross-Country

This month I make my annual cross-country drive to Nevada and Burning Man. As we have done for the past two years, Gail and I will spend a week together in Reno, Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. I'll drive there and she will fly. When she returns home, I'll go to Burning Man.

The Green Man is this year's theme at Burning Man. (Do a Google search.)

Mom is spending the month in Florida with Cliff. That should be a great experience for both of them.

Mom
Things are going well with mom. We have a nice routine for waking up, breakfast, daily trips/adventures, etc. I've consolidated all of her accounts at a nearby bank. In short, everything is falling into place nicely and we enjoy each other's company.

Time Alone -- Lamoille Canyon
My daughter is studying a traditional Taoist healing process, qigong. As we talked a little about it, I realized that she doesn't know the part of me that -- before she was born -- spent long and regular periods of time learning to be alone, trying to know myself, and engaging in meditation and prayer of sorts. My drive across country, by myself, gets me back in touch with all of that -- as illustrated by this hike into Lamoille Canyon.

Driving from Ohio to Nevada
I used my regular strategy -- drive a lot the first two days to get as far West as I can, and take my time in the Western states, enjoying the sights.

Pyramid Lake
One of the main reasons we like to come to this part of the country is to float on Pyramid Lake on the Piaute Indian Reservation about 30 miles from Reno.

Lake Tahoe
We visited Lake Tahoe for a scenic drive and some gambling at Bill's Casino in South Lake Tahoe. From the lake, we drove down along the Truckee River, stopping for refreshments (yes, beer) on a river patio.

Downieville, California
Gail's last name is Downie. A friend at work told her about Downieville, a small mining town in the Sierra Mountains of California, so we visited. It was so nice that we stayed overnight in a river resort -- on the Downie River, of course.
