FileZilla
I used to buy WS_FTP for file uploading and downloading. I didn't mind paying $40 for the program when I was working. Lately, though, I am trying to cut down on my spending, so I have been using the free FileZilla for my FTP needs.
A screen capture of FileZilla is on the left. The top panel shows the connection. The bottom panel would show the files being transferred (except that none are at the moment). The center-right is the server, and the center-left is the local file system. You double-click to open folders and simply drag files to or from the server.
