Larrie Bird Update

Larrie Laid an Egg

Larrie didn't lay any eggs last year. Before that she laid them once or twice per year. Once she laid 16 in a row!

She often laid eggs in November, which surprised us. This time she is more in tune with the natural rhythms of Spring.

More Larrie

You can see the feathers on the bottom are ruffled from sitting on the egg.
I have to get her out of the cage more often than usual or she will sit on
her eggs all day long. She'll be a good mother, if the time ever comes.

Besides getting more in tune with the rhythm of Spring, she did another
new and interesting thing this time -- she tore up the paper on the bottom
of her cage and made a nest. She never did that before.

We don't know how old she is, but she seemed young to us. Maybe so, and
maybe she is getting the motherly behavior mastered as she ages a little.
I wonder how many more eggs she will lay this time. Stay tuned.
