Curtis Barnes Exhibit

Retrospective

The children of Curtis Barnes organized a major retrospective of his work. Curtis and I used to share studio space. He was my art teacher, mentor, guru -- he has a significant impact on everyone who knows him. My daughter in Portland heard about the show and was eager for me to post some images.

This is a fragment from a self-portrait that I liked a lot.

More Curtis Exhibition

The exhibition was in several large spaces throughout the Cannery
complex in downtown Dayton. (Our shared studio space was in one
of the buildings that are now the Cannery.)

The show included paintings from his entire career, but I especially
enjoyed seeing newer ones that I hadn't seen before.

A triptych in a familiar style, but with some cryptic pseudo-web-address
graphic on the bottom.

I wonder if I had any influence on this one??? When we shared space,
I often painted words on my pictures. As a teacher, Curtis was
always observant and open to influences from his students.

I plan on painting some "Green Man" pictures this year -- that's the
theme of Burning Man in 2007. Curtis beat me to it with this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show and it brought back
great memories of painting, studios, and friendship.
