Driving - Day 6

Across Northern Nevada to Reno

After Elko, the only towns of substance that you pass when driving across Nevada on I-80 are Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, and Lovelock.

You pass a LOT of mountains. Here are some in the early morning light as I leave Elko at about 6:00 a.m. I'll be in Reno by noon.

More Northern Nevada to Reno

More morning mountains.

First stop, the Owl Club Casino in Battle Mountain for breakfast.

I checked and sure enough, there are mountains in sight at every point
across Northern Nevada. Usually mountains on the left and right, and
in front and behind.

Mountains with other mountains behind.

A dam of the Humbolt River in Rye Patch creates a recreational lake
above the Humbolt Basin.

The underground basin covers 17,000 square miles.

A lot of exits had no services.

But I did find this lonely Pizzeria, Saloon and Gallery in the middle of
nowhere.

I drove past Winnemucca -- I'll be stopping there on the way home to use
their excellent landfill for my Burning Man trash. But I did make a quick
stop in Lovelock for an ice cream cone -- here's to you, mom.

Mountains near Reno.

Yep, only 17 more miles to Reno. And from the mile marker (31) you can
see that California is a mere 14 miles past Reno.

There it is.

I'm off the highway.

Made it.
