More Driving - Day 1

Crossing the Illinois River.
Illinois River -- looking up.

Mississippi River -- looking up.
Next milestone -- view West of the Mississippi.

I drove across Iowa and two-thirds of Nebraska.

I cruised between 70 and 75 mph and only stopped three times -- twice
for gas (spent $130 on gas today) and once in the morning for coffee.
The odometer is at 177777.
View of the road in Nebraska as I pass the 1000 mile mark for the day.
I drove for 15 and a half hours, stopped in North Platte, NB and stayed in a
cheap motel where I
had a couple of beers, charged my cell phone and
posted these pictures. I could have made Cheyenne, Wyoming, but no need
to press. I have plenty of time.
It was good to leave on Sunday -- no traffic. And the Sirius radio is an
incredible companion that really helps the time pass. I listened to lots of good,
Sunday shows on NPR and lots of Howard Stern.
(By the way, with Sirius I can
also listen to all preseason Steeler games with local, Pittsburgh broadcasters.)
My goal for the first day was to put some distance between myself and Dayton.
Mission accomplished. Now I have plenty of time to tour Wyoming, Utah and
Nevada at a more liesurely pace on my way to Reno.
