On Being a Teacher

I watched the movie, "The Emperor's Club," last night -- about a
classics teacher (Greek and Roman) at a boy's preparatory school. I
didn't think it was a terrific movie, but I liked these lines...

"A great teacher has little history to record. His life goes over into
other lives. These men are pillars in the intimate structure of our
schools. They are more essential than its stones or beams, and they will
continue to be a kindling force and a revealing power in our lives."
